For 55 years, the InterCity has connected people, regions, and generations. With its distinctive comfort, its striking locomotives, and its high-quality travel services, it has decisively shaped the history of German long-distance rail travel. Many innovations that are now standard on the ICE were once introduced with the InterCity and set standards for rail travel in Germany.
In autumn 2026, a significant chapter in railway history will come to an end. Together, we would like to look back on 55 years of InterCity, honor special moments, and at the same time bid farewell to the Intercity 1, the Class 101, and the Class 218 locomotives in long-distance service. For this purpose, the Intercity 1 will embark on a farewell tour starting on September 25, 2026.
ROCO and FLEISCHMANN, together with Deutsche Bahn AG, are sending a specially designed special carriage onto the rails, which will participate in all farewell journeys.
