The “Hispania Express” had been running between Copenhagen since 1963, and then between Hamburg and Port Bou from 1969. From this point on, in Germany it was run as an accelerated express train with a maximum speed of 160 km/h, like other TEE and F or IC trains.
The train is being replicated for the 1976/77 timetable year, as the “Hispania” had a particularly large number of 1st/2nd class cars this year. Class (ABüm), the typical through carriage of the German Federal Railway. In order to reach 160 km/h, the cars, which also included the first examples in ocean blue/beige, had to be equipped with magnetic rail brakes.
