Between 1975 and 1977, BN and ACEC delivered 25 locomotives to the SNCB. The locomotives, with the Co'Co' wheel arrangement, weighed 110 tons, had 5,150 kW of continuous power, and were designed for a top speed of 160 km/h. Their
main area of use was passenger service on the main line (Ostend)–Brussels–Luxembourg. They were also used in passenger and freight transport until the end of 2013. Currently, three Reeks 20s have been preserved.
